The UIGEA aka The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act

In October of last year, in the final moments of the last Republican dominated session, Rep. Bill Frist attached a bill to the Safe Port Act without anyone in the Senate having any knowledge of it until fifteen minutes before the Act hit the floor for debate. The Safe Port Act was/is an important act that protects the security of the US borders and it passed almost unanimously in both the Senate and House. And so the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (aka the UIGEA), the bill that former senator Frist scandalously attached to the Safe Port Act, passed and the Internet gambling world was left with their collective mouths agape.

Internet gambling stocks that were publicly traded on the London stock exchange plummeted. Respected online casino, poker, and sportsbooks were forced to close their doors to American citizens. And the repercussions of the deceitfully passed UIGEA are still being felt.

Casino Gambling Web has created an entire section devoted to this topic. We were one of the most active news organizations following this story and we started following before everyone else, way back in July of 2006 when the first anti-Internet gambling bill was proposed and ultimately shot down in Congress. The Internet gambling world blew a sigh of relief, but our reporters did not stop following the issues as we knew the industry was not yet out of hot water. Since the UIGEA has passed Casino Gambling Web has been the ultimate source for visitors to find up to date US Internet gambling law news.
